Jon Fiskness

Jon E. Fiskness has been with the City of Superior as the GIS Coordinator since March of 2008. He graduated from the University of Minnesota, Duluth with a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography and a concentration in GIS in 1994. During and after college, he worked for the Arrowhead Regional Development Commission in Duluth, where he started as an intern and later became the GIS Coordinator/Network Administrator through March 2006. In 2000 -2001 he was appointed to the Minnesota Governor’s Council on Geographic Information.  In March of 2006 he moved to Sportsman’s Connection, Inc. where he worked as the Information Systems Manager, leading a team of GIS staff creating and collecting data for Fishing Guide Books and All-Outdoor Atlases for 12 states.  In 2008, he received certification as a Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) by the GISCI. In October 2010, he was elected to the Wisconsin Geographic Information Coordinating Council. Also in 2010 he also earned a Certification in Pictometry aerial photo products. 

During his tenure at the City of Superior, Jon created and managed the City/County Enterprise Geographic Information System. Giving access to the system to over 150 users. His expertise is in system and data management. More recently he developed the City/County GIS portal, a web based, system that opens the data up to the public, giving them access to the Enterprise GIS via the Internet.

Jon holds certificates from Pictometry/Eagleview and GISCI's GISP. He also has a UAV Pilot's LIcense (Part 107) for flying drones commercially.
